Established in 1993, the ADA Continuing Education Recognition Program (ADA CERP) provides ADA members and the dental community a mechanism to select quality continuing dental education (CE) with confidence and promotes the continuous improvement of continuing dental education both nationally and globally.
CALIFORNIA: Dentists: 50 CE hours ( 25 hours can be taken online or through correspondence – required courses are: 2 hours of California Infection Control, 2 hours of California Dental Practice Act, and CPR is required in the classroom) required every two years – due by individuals birthday, every other year.
Continuing education – is an all-encompassing term describing additional formal learning activities that are generally not focused on a college degree outcome. Courses are often described in Continuing Education Units (CEU’s).
No more than 50% of the total required units may be taken as non- live or correspondence courses. Interactive courses such as live video conferencing, live webinar , live lecture and live workshop demonstrations may be considered as a live course .

A: One CEU equals ten contact hours of participation in organized continuing education classes and/or training conducted by a qualified instructor. A contact hour is equivalent to one 60-minute interaction between an instructor and the participant.
A one-hour course offers one CE Credit . Choose courses relevant to your business – and your insurance license. Do not wait until the last minute to earn your required CE Credits . You cannot repeat a course within two years; you can earn CE Credit only once for each course during your license renewal period.
To apply for a Continuing Education Provider Permit, complete and submit an application and $410.00 application fee to the Dental Board of California .
